What is the TexShare Card Program?

The TexShare Card Program is a reciprocal borrowing program which allows registered users of participating TexShare libraries to obtain a separate TexShare card that may be used to borrow materials directly from other participating libraries. You must obtain a TexShare card from your home institution before going to other libraries. Home libraries will require an applicant for a TexShare Card to be in good standing at the home library, and to have demonstrated compliance with the home library’s borrowing policies.

GIAL Cardholders wanting a TexShare Card

GIAL Library card holders wishing to obtain TexShare cards may apply at the circulation desk. You may view a list of participating libraries from which you may borrow at http://www.texshare.edu/generalinfo/about/programs.html

TexShare Borrowers Coming to GIAL Library

Who is eligible?

Any patron from a TexShare member library may obtain a GIAL library card. A TexShare card from the borrower institution and a valid ID are required at the time of application. GIAL library cards will be issued for the term of the TexShare card (no more than 6 months).

Loan Periods

TexShare patrons may borrow up to 5 circulating items for a period of 2 weeks. Items marked as Reference, Journals, Book-Local, and some other categories are non-circulating. Borrowers may renew items twice if there are no holds or recalls on them. Renewals may be requested by phoning (972) 708-7416 by e-mailing library_dallas@gial.edu, or in person.

Borrowers' Responsilbilities

Borrowers accept responsibility for all book or non-book materials borrowed on their GIAL card and agree to pay any applicable fines or fees for lost, damaged or overdue library materials. It is the borrowers' responsibility to notify the GIAL Library of changes in address or e-mail and to report if their GIAL card is lost or stolen.

Each item overdue is charged 25 cents/day.

Blocking Borrowing Priviledges

Borrowing priviledges will be blocked if:

  • limit is reached of allowable items borrowed
  • overdue fines are owed
  • card is expired
  • card is reported lost or stolen
