With recent shootings on university campuses in the United States, it is imperative that GIAL have an effective way to communicate with faculty and students should there be this type of emergency. The current system for a lockdown situation is primitive and leaves students, staff and faculty vulnerable. The present system requires individuals to stand in the halls and alert students, staff and faculty of the emergency with the aid of a bullhorn. This leaves the announcers vulnerable.
A PA system would eliminate the need for individuals to put themselves at risk. Not only will it ensure a greater level of safety but it will more effectively alert the whole campus of an emergency situation. In the event of an emergency, every second of warning is crucial.
