Academic Structure
There are two academic departments within GIAL:
Applied Linguistics Department
- Responsible for administering the Certificate in Applied Linguistics
program and degree programs with emphases in Bible Translation,
ethnology, descriptive linguistics, and cross-cultural service.
- Basic interdisciplinary courses in phonetics, grammar, field methods
& data management.
Language Development Department
- Responsible for administering the degree programs with emphases
in ethnology, literacy, language survey, and sociolinguistics.
- Basic interdisciplinary courses in language and culture
acquisition, teaching cross-culturally, social science research,
and statistical methods.
These study programs are based on a modular concept taught in 20-week
bimesters
Accreditation
The Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics is accredited by the
Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools to award master's degrees.
