AL5333 - Tone Analysis
(FALL every even numbered year) (3 graduate credits)
By the end of this course, students will be able to transcribe tone data accurately; elicit and organize data that lends itself to insightful tone analysis; recognize common tonal phenomena; apply principles of autosegmental phonology and optimality theory to tone data; employ acoustic software to enhance tone analysis; and apply sound principles of orthographic representation of tone.
Prerequisite:
AL5304 Advanced Phonological Analysis or permission of instructor.
