AL 5398 Seminar in Applied Linguistics

New: Seminar on Generative Analysis of Non-Western Music
(April 10-June 5, 2008)

(3 semester hours)
(Formerly AL 5385 Analysis of Non-Western Music)
After completing this course, students will demonstrate progress in becoming bimusical. Building on the seminal work of Vida Chenoweth in ethnomusicology, they will be able to do computer-aided transcription and analysis of a non-Western music system and be able to compose new melodies in that system. They will be able to facilitate the composition of Christian music in non-Western music systems without using existing melodies. Prerequisite: B.A. in Music, or permission of instructor
