Financial Aid


How do I apply for financial aid?

Complete the GIAL Financial Aid Application online after

  • choosing your program of study,
  • calculating how much it will cost per term,
  • estimating your living expenses, and
  • tell how you plan to pay for your study program per term

All of which are asked in the application form at http://www.gial.edu/financial-aid/.

When should I apply?

April 1 is the deadline for the fall term (July-December) and October 1 is the deadline for the spring term (January-June).

Do I have to be admitted to GIAL before I can apply for financial aid?

No.  But a general application for admission needs to be received before you can apply for financial aid.

What scholarships are available?

GIAL offers need-based scholarships for new students as well as one for International students. There is also the Tozer scholarship, which is for current GIAL students. View the Financial Aid page for more info.

Do I have to have a certain GPA in order to qualify?

Yes, any financial aid requires a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Who qualifies for financial aid?

Any student enrolled full-time in a GIAL program that has a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher may apply for financial aid. Financial aid will be granted to students who have financial need.

Do I have to be enrolled full-time, or can I be a part-time student?

To receive financial aid you need to be enrolled full-time in a GIAL program, either a certificate or degree program.

What is considered full-time?

If you are taking graduate courses over 12-16 weeks of classes, you need to be enrolled for 9 hours; but if you are taking such classes over the full 20 weeks of a term, you need to be enrolled for 12 hours.

When do I know if I will receive financial aid?

The Financial Aid Committee meets in mid-April and mid-October. Following their meetings the Financial Aid Administrator will inform each applicant the action taken by the committee.

Where should I look for other funding?

If students are not granted a GIAL scholarship, they may want to check out the Non-GIAL Scholarship Resources section of the Financial Aid page for other outside scholarships for which they might qualify and apply.

Can I use Veterans benefits to pay for my GIAL education?

Yes. We are fully certified to accept G. I. Bill benefits. Contact VeteransOfficer@gial.edu for more information.

Do I have to apply for financial aid for each term at GIAL?

Yes, the award of a GIAL scholarship is only for a single term. Students must resubmit a financial aid application each term.

Do I need to reapply for financial aid if I postpone my entry date?

Yes.  A current Financial Aid application is required for consideration by the committee.

Do I need to reapply for financial aid if I return after a leave of absence?

Yes, students taking a leave of absence in their program for any reason have to reapply for financial aid.

Once I have been awarded financial aid at GIAL, under what circumstance would GIAL withdraw my financial aid?

The requirements include registering for and having the advisor’s approval for GIAL courses and attending classes; maintaining a cumulative minimum 3.00 GPA; being a full-time student, sending a Thank you note to the scholarship donor, and signing and returning the GIAL Financial Aid Terms Agreement.

I can’t find a FAFSA code for GIAL. Does GIAL have one?

No. We are not a Title IV school and do not qualify for federal financial aid.

When do I pay tuition and fees?

Tuition is due at registration for on-site courses, but one week early for online courses. GIAL prefers to have payment up front for the entire term, but it is possible to set up a payment plan for an additional fee. Visit our Payment Plans page for more information.

How do I pay tuition and fees?

Can I pay my tuition and fees with a credit card?

We do accept credit cards. However, students who pay their tuition and/or fee obligations by credit card will be charged with an additional Convenience fee of 3% of their total charges. View the Payments page for more information on how to pay.

Can I pay in installments if I can’t pay the full amount at the beginning of a term?

Yes, the Pay-By-Session Plan allows you to pay each session for only those courses which begin with that session. However, this entails additional fees.

Will GIAL be worth the cost?
