The Registrar's Office serves GIAL students through registration, maintaining student records, distributing grade reports, and other duties.
A mandatory new student orientation is offered at the beginning of each bimester. New student registration follows orientation.
GIAL considers the academic advising process an integral part of each student's program and provides faculty advisors to assist students in selecting courses each bimester. All students should schedule an appointment with an advisor before each registration or pre-registration.
All students are to register in person following advisement at the beginning of the bimester or before the start date of their course(s). All course tuition and fees are due at registration. A student may register late, but a late registration fee will apply. Any student who has not made arrangement for payment of accounts by the end of the third day of classes will not be allowed to continue attending classes. Payment options include cash, check or money order. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.
Those interested in auditing must have an approved Audit Permission Form from the course instructor before registering to audit a course. Audited courses will appear on the student's transcript marked 'AU' and will not count as credit toward degree requirements nor be considered in the GPA calculation.
Up to 15 hours of credit which correspond to the requirements of GIAL graduate degree programs of study, and which have a minimum grade of “B” may be transferred from accredited institutions. Courses submitted for transfer credit must be submitted using a Petition Form. Courses transferred into GIAL toward completion of a GIAL degree may be no more than 10 years old at the time that the GIAL degree is completed. Transfer credits must explicitly list the GIAL course for which they are being accepted.
Transferability of credits earned at GIAL and transferred to another institution is at the discretion of the receiving institution. Questions regarding the transfer of credits should be directed to the Academic Dean.
Students registering for a 3-credit hour course by distance education should plan on the course starting at the fifth week of the GIAL bimester and finishing at the end of the bimester. Applications must be submitted eight weeks prior to the start of the course. Registration for Distance Education courses will close four weeks before the beginning of the course to allow any written materials to be sent.
Student advisement for Distance Education courses may take place by e-mail or phone.
Pre-registration is for students who are currently taking classes and are planning to return for classes in the upcoming bimester. The Pre-registration occurs three weeks each bimester during the last week of Session 3 and through the second week of Session 4. Students must meet with their advisor and submit the approved pre-registration form to the Registrar’s Office by the end of the advertised pre-registration time. Failure to do so will result in a late pre-registration fee. No tuition payment is due at pre-registration. This is a preliminary step for students to indicate their interest in particular courses to be offered in the upcoming bimester. PRE-REGISTERED STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO REGISTER AND PAY TUITION AT THE APPROPRIATE REGISTRATION FOR THEIR COURSES.
See Academic Calendar for upcoming pre-registration and registration dates.
Students will not gain academic credit towards a graduate degree at GIAL for learning outside formal collegiate courses.
