Student Life

Student Government

GIAL has an active student government. The Student Body Association (SBA) serves primarily to give voice and representation to the student body, provide channels of communication to GIAL entities, and to integrate all phases of extracurricular life of the student body. Members of the SBA are elected by the student body. The Student Body Association also elects a student representative to the GIAL Board of Trustees, GIAL Faculty Forum, Computer Advisory Committee, Library Committee, Safety Committee and the Institutional Master Planning Committee (IMPC).

The SBA sponsors a number of events related to student and community life. The following are photo records of some recent events:

Oz Sing-Along The Wizard of Oz Sing-Along: One of the traditions at GIAL is to have a Sing-A-Long each bimester. Donning costumes, the students gathered on February 23, 2007, to view "The Wizard of Oz," singing along with the familiar lyrics. Lollipops and other treats were in abundance and prizes were given for the best singer and the best costume.

Trash Clean-Up
On Saturday, April 21, 2007, the GIAL students participated in the semi-annual trash clean-up along Camp Wisdom Road.  We have adopted the roadway between Clark Road and Mountain Creek Parkway.  The weather was excellent and within a couple of hours, the ditches had a cleaner look.

Trash Pickup

Post-Alveolar Click

The prize for the most unusual item was what would be known as an exclamation point to the general population, but to these linguistics students, it was a (post)alveolar click!

September 15, 2007 was the date of our most recent effort, and we again had a very productive crew.
